Instead of: "Colleagues. This is a difficult study. Accordingly, it has been extended an additional two weeks..."

how about

"Colleagues. This is a difficult study. Accordingly, we're doubling the reward..."

  how about

  "Colleagues. This is a difficult study. Accordingly, for the work you have already done, we will let you know whether or not that work is in scope before the day of the deadline..."

  what if the double reward amount goes to a researcher other than self..still painful :)

  how about

  "Colleagues. This is a difficult study. Accordingly, we are distributing the reward amount evenly among all the in-scope submissions...."
